I dont know if someone will be interested in this but I just LOVE IT!!!
How about Wedding Video with 5.1 DD from stereo source audio?
That is what I do.Add voice over, music, music effects.... export the audio to 2 channel wav 44.1 khz transcode with BeSweet to 6 mono 48khz encode with SoftEncode. It is NOT TRUE 5.1 but the LFE is separated properly & sounds GREAT. I do this with all my music now & I've tested it on my DVD Player(Standalone) sounds to good.To some people (customers) 5.1 or 2.0 does not mean anything but to me I LOVE IT.There is a good thread on Doom9 Forums about transcoding stereo to 5.1(KPEX metod & Eye of Honours,Kempfand).
If you interested in this have a look.

Ivan.

Firstly, the splitting process - does BeSweet do something to the audio, or is it the same as taking a stereo event in Vegas, mixing the channels, then duplicating the track 5 times?

Having made your stereo file into 6 monos, how do you play with them after that?
e.g. Do you keyframe to make the emphasis move round the room at different moments?
Do you apply different EQ or other effects to different channels?
What trickery do you get up to?

Interesting stuff.

It is NOT the same thing as taking a stereo event, mixing the channels, duplicating the tract 5 times.
BeSweet transcodes the stereo source(pcm,wave,wav,mp3,ogg,mpeg multichannel....) then finds the max gain in the track, normalizes the track, does resampling to 48 khz mono, calls SOX.exe to write mono 48 khz wav, puts reverb to each channel,eq's them(YES it is different EQ to each channel). After that it is up to you if you want to encode them with FREE ac3 encoder or commercial, but the track sounds much better with commercial ac3 encoder. There are lost of things to know before encoding ac3 file!!! Go to Dolby Labs website & get some manuals(PDF).One of the BEST things about Sonic Foundry's Soft Encode is that you can do full CD in a batch & you can have look what BeSweet did to the stereo file before you encode. However the ac3 encoder in Vegas it is updated version & it is better because it's got some new features(again READ the PDF's about updated versions ac3 encoders).
Yes, you can keyframe them in Vegas (if you want some effects) but that is too much work to be done(if it's for a customer).
There is another way to do the same conversion stereo to 5.1 (Ambisonic Metod) which takes too much time(for now) but Eye of Honours (Doom9) is making a new guide & I can't wait for it.
I've been trying to do the same conversion for about 1.5 years but in a different way using PRO spectrum analyzers and hardware Dolby Encoder & Decoder which of course it's not mine(VISUAL BOX STUDIOS),extensive filternig based on music recognition software.....
Like I said try the metods,listen.......ENJOY!
