weird behavior of media generators?

malowz wrote on 5/13/2010, 6:50 PM
if i add a solid color for instance, then change the size in the media generator window to 10x480, the image does not become a strip. if i remove from timeline and add again, it came black. also, just clicking in a empty space on timeline and back again in the generator goes black in most cases

sometimes, when i reduce the size in media generator window, the preview window become a image that are far away in timeline. really weird.

anyone can reproduce? try 2 or 3 times

ive updated to 9.0e, same thing happens.

Your generated media size should be the same as your project properties in most circumstances.
Do all your sizing and cropping in Event Pan/Crop or Track Motion to avoid confusion.

if it should be the same size, why there's a option to specify size?

also, i was trying to make a tiny stripe, and pan/crop does not have enough space to reduce to that size.

so....

Like for a lower third?

Then in the event pan/crop set your small frame and pan

i use this often for lower 3’s on media gen as the pan gives you enough background motion without animating the texture

In Pan/Crop set "Stretch to Fill Frame" = NO . This will you to make as small or large enough strip as you want.

However, if you want to do this in your Graphics editor . . . . .

Pan Crop is for Panning and Cropping. Setting the Generated Media size sets a size to reflect either your Project you are working IN or sets the size you want to Render TO or, BOTH. That's why you CAN set your GenMed's size here (at times I have had to refer back to either the Project variables or the rendering variables and make adjustments in this setting) and that's why we have the Pan Crop option to NOT take any account of Project or Rendering. Now, would you prefer it to do that instead - to take this into account? - Eh, I know I wouldn't! Does that answer your "fundamental" question? I hope so?

The most obvious reason is if your render properties are going to be different than your project properties.

Yes it does.
But P/C can be a little difficult to wrap your brain around. Try track motion instead, it's more intuitive.

Generated media has a size option so you can create effects, such as title rolls. If you make a generated media larger than the project, you can pan an zoom across it allowing easy programming of title rolls and crawls.

so, besides the other options to make a stripe, the problem i described occurred?

As you saw it, then it occurred. If you want to use Vegas for the purposes it was intended, then try the solutions offered by your friends here.
