What are the options for going from Vegas to DVD?

Normally I would have just used print to tape to get my project to DV camcorder, and then camcorder to standalone firewire DVD recorder.

But the brand new Dell 5150 I bought just for Vegas and firewire decided to blow out my camcorder firewire port ASAP instead.

So now I have to go from Vegas to DVD in some other way.

I would like to know what options there are. The Vegas manual seems of little help.

Keeping everything in best digital quality is a must please. No "play it analog into DV" please :)

I would guess these methods:

Can I render from Vegas a file that Nero can burn directly as a DVD? (I don't care about DVD menus/authoring with this particular project, just pop in and play is fine)

Can I render from vegas a file that I can bring to iMovie on Mac to print to tape, or author in iDVD?

Can I get from Vegas to tape without using firewire? I wish there was a USB 2.0 or IDE solution instead of firewire.

If there is a solution, PLEASE let me know what render template/settings is best.

Thank you very much for any suggestions : )

There's DVD Architect for authoring DVDs. Render out as mpeg-2 and .WAV, import into DVDA project. prepare files and burn DVD.
However what ends up on a DVD no matter how you do it is NOT the same as what you'd PTT.
Other option is to burn the .avi file to a DVD-R as a data file. You will not find much you can play it on but you can copy the file into any other PC or Mac and play or edit or whatever with it. Limitation is only about 20 mins of video will fit but you can use Vegas to split it into 20 min segements and burn those and then rejoin when you load the files. I do that for clients quite a lot and DVDs are mcuh better for archival storage than DV tape.

The answer to question one is YES. Nero works very well. I've heard some say it is better than DVD. Very simple. Just render and save then open Nero and burn.

Render using what settings please? Also what file format?

I tried to render to Quicktime today but always got an error from Vegas about writting the file. (quicktime is up to date version)

Rendered to avi, using the default NTSC DV template but it looks like blurry 320x240 to me in media player?????

""Render using what settings please? Also what file format?""

What format do you want? If all you need is for a DVD that will play on almost any commercial DVD player and you are using Nero I would render in MPEG2. Nero will read the audio_ts and the video_ts files and make the disk.

In Vegas use the MainConcept and unlike if you were using DVD Architect where you would render sound seperatly in AC3 or PCM, with the MPEG include the audio stream (Make sure the audio box is checked to include audio). That's it. Good luck.

I've had very good luck with both NERO 6 Ultra Edition and TMPGEnc.

See their website here.....
