I plan on snapping up V8 the minute it's released and it will of course be the upgrade version. The question is... what happens with V7 after the upgrade? Is it garbage.... or are we aloud to (for example) use it on another machine?
You can keep V7 on another machine if you want to .
You can sell it as long as the purchaser understands that he/she won't be able to use it for future upgrades.
i sell my old copies to my dad for ~1/2 the upgrade price. So... I get V8+DVDA4.5 for cheap & he get V6+DVDA3 for cheap. Cheaper then if bought new! :)
no work on the discount yet though. Looks like I could upgrade to V7+DVDA4 for $250 boxed though right now (I thought it was $350?).
I'm not sure what process Vegas 8 upgrade will use to verify that you are indeed entitled to the upgrade. Most upgrades require some form of proof on your machine (or simply inserting the old version in a drive for verification) to be able to install. If that is the case and if you get rid of the old version AFTER you finish the upgrade and ever need to reinstall on a new or clean machine you "might" not be able to.
jday: Not so for Vegas. For the versions so far, every install is a new install. It doesn't care whether you have an old Vegas version installed or not.

Nothing really specific. I was just toying with the idea of installing V7 on my kids' machine so they play around with it.
You SELL old copies of Vegas to your Dad? I don't know you or your dad, but wouldn't it be nice to just GIVE him the program?
Everything he gets for 1/2 the price I upgrade for (except Vegas 3 LE, I just gave him that). Basically, if he wasn't buying I wouldn't be upgrading so then he'd get nothing. :)
I give him hours of video advice/help every day instead. :)
I bought a copy of 4 on eBay from a seller in of all places Madison, WI for $57 on ebay, then upgraded it to Vegas 7 for $135 which was the price right after 7 released.
