What audio setting

If you go to prefrences audio device I have:
Microsoft Sound Mapper
Direct Sound Mapper
Windows Classic Wave Driver
Creative ASIO

My question is which one I should be using and why. Which one is the best or is there such a thing. Thanks in advance.

You will most often find the Classic driver for multichannel sound cards will work best, but it depends on the drivers your soundcard has accessible.

I've found for my onboard sound card that only DirectX give me surround sound ?(no ASIO for me!). But, it crashes A LOT. Every Vegas crash I've had is because of the DirectX sound driver.

What kind of on-board card do you have? This was common with some Creative cards, but reverting to older drivers fixed this.
