We have a Panasonic AG-DV2000, works very well with Vegas. Another option would be to pick up a second camera on E-Bay, I just got one for $200 and use that as a playback deck. I know the Panasonic deck is around $1800.

My Panasonic AG-DV1000 works fine for me. It also costs about $800.00

I use the Panasonic AG-DV1000 and it works fine. I record all of the
"S" video stuff to mini DV tape then flip the switch and capture to V-4.
I also use the Canon XL-1S and it works just fine--superb optics with
optical stabilization (blows away electronic stabilization).

I use a Sony D1000E - has a 4" monitor in the lid, which is very handy, and stereo speakers built in.

I use Sony PD-150Pal. I prefer this over any other mini DV mainly because there are so many TV stations using it. It's like a "minimum system requirement" for high quality broadcast use. Also I think it's made with video journalism in mind, for a "one man team" to use. 3 CCD. Built in "real" audio connectors w. phantom power. Lots of accesories such as filters, lenses and other. Small screen to flip out when needed. And no problems with Vegas.
