I'm not sure if I can help but, I'm even more unsure of your exact question. Copywrite laws are simple yet, a big sublect depending on your angle. do you want to ensure that your creative work will not be stolen or are you concerned with the prospect of inadvertently stepping over the line with someone elses stuff?

I would encourage you to reasearch this more or even consult a legal expert if you are still unsure, but I can tell you basically what the copyright laws say:

Don't use something that somebody else created and try to call it your own, and do not distribute your creation for profit if it contains somebody else's work.

There are lots of gray areas too, so I would definitely advise that you do your homework.

Strike the "for profit" phrase. You can't distribute your work with someone elses, whether it makes money or is free. Example: Your video with a copyrighted soundtrack. Proof: Napster. Free distribution, yet illegal.
