What do YOU use to batch convert to Mpeg2-- Also, old jerky western scene

Hi all,

2 questions: 1st, what do you all use to batch convert avi's to mpeg2's? I want to start saving alot of my footage onto dvd's so that I can use it for little home projects etc. But I do not have experience in batch converting 25-50 avi's at a time. Not sure exactly what to do on a very limited budget.

2nd, I am familiar with and have used to "old film" FX in Vegas, but I want to do a scene in which it seems like the old 30's-40's jerky action of people in motion (I hope that describes it). I don't know if I should use velocity envelopes or what? The film grain etc. is all under control, but I just don't know what to try in order to achieve this effect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Shifting the undersample rate on the frames will help get the jerky look, right clik the event/Properties/undersample rate.

Add a little colorization, some scratches, you'll be there.

Have you tried using Batch Converter's script for converting your regions/timeline/avi's? you already have it if you have Vegas 5.

Spot thanks for the reply. I do have Vegas 5. I tried the batch render script, but am still a little confused.

1) I have 50 avi clips and want them all converted to mpeg2s (each as a separtate file)
2) I put all of the events/avis on the timeline and selected all
3) I then ran the batch render script by rendering "selection"
4) I just got one long mpeg2 file

Can I render them all separately at once in Vegas or do you recommend a different program??

Thank you again.

Main Concept's stand-alone MPG2 encoder does a fine job batch converting.

I use it all the time.

Good results.

You need to make each clip/event a region. Double click the event, hit R for region. You don't need to name it if you don't want to. Then run the batch just like you did.
