What does pan really do in Vegas?

I've been listening to the audio results of the pan command
and am trying to conclude what it really does. Is there
anything beyond the obvious shift of image in the stereo
field? For example: Does it work like a balance control in
a stereo system (where at either extreme one channel's
information is silenced) or does it progressively mix/move
the output of one channel into the other, creating a summed
output? - Doug Marshall

We're looking at adding the balance control as well for
Vegas3.

For now, you can open copy in Forge (if you have it) to
separate and adjust L/R in a stereo file.

OK, thanks SonicEPM. I'll do l/r balancing in Sound Forge.
From what I was hearing I thought that the signals were
being mixed. For the particular work I'm doing right now a
balance control would be handy. I'll look forward to it in
Vegas 3. - Doug
