What does the "loop" switch do?

Another thread talked about stabilizing graphics to get rid of flicker on sharp contrasts. We had the same issue with still pictures in a montage, and tried many of the techniques, such as setting the de-interlace switch, etc.

While on a picture's switch menu in Vegas 9.d., noticed a "Loop" switch that, with de-interlace, appeared to clean up the picture nicely.

What does this Loop switch really do? The "Help" function was helpless.

It is in the help menu

Enabling the Loop switch on an event will allow you to drag the right edge of the event out and have it repeat the file over and over rather than inserting silence.

That's what I thought, implied by its name. But having it turned ON seemed to reduce flicker, when compared to an identical still image (placed later on in the project) with the switch turned OFF and, of course (grrr!), discovered after burning the DVD.

Thanks ...
