video? im currently using a sony vaio with the built in
firewaire but im looking into upgrading to something with
firewire and analog in and out.. ive looked into the dv500
from pinnacle but it comes with premiere 5.1 which i cant
stand... i know that i could just not install the program ,
but im paying for it with the 800 dollar pricetag for the
dv500... any bare capture cards with only capturing
software on the market that work well with vegas video?

Do not load DV500 drivers on same PC as VV. Repeat, DO NOT LOAD
DV500 DRIVERS ON SAME PC AS VV. I tried what you are talking about
and it cost me a month of pure hell. VV will not render to NTSC DV
correctly as long as the Pinnacle DV500 CODECS are on your computer.
They automatically over-ride any VV output setting and you will end
up with worthless crap. When they tell you the card must be OHCI---
BELIEVE THEM. The DV500 and associated CODECS are propriatary and
suck. I am capturing all analog to a Panasonic PV-DV600 first, then
on to the PC with a ADS Pyro IEEE card ($75.00 and throw away the
software that comes with it) and VV Capture program. Works great
everytime. If your camera doesn't capture analog, Sony sells a
converter for $400.00 that supposingly works great.
Good Luck
