I want to scan a picture, then place it in vegas, what format (jpeg, tiff, bmp, gif etc) should I use so the picture won't get distorted? What is the procedure so I won't distort the scan picture? thanks.
png is the format to use. Once you scan the picture in, place it on a track--then chose the pan crop tool, right click on the photo that will appear and select maintain aspect ratio---that will put it in the aspect ratio of the project you are working on.
Are you referring to black space above/below to the right/left of the frame? That's due to the image having at least one dimension out of sync with the frame size you picked. When you right click on the image inside the pan/crop work space Vegas will jump it up to fill the frame... BUT, if it too big one way (height or width) then some of the image will be cropped. You can move it around within the work area by grabbing the double cross icon and holding your mouse down. If you resize it manually you likely wll take it out of square and you'll mess up the aspect ratio. The solution is pan/crop the images PRIOR to bringing them in using Photoshop or another graphic application so you end up with either the frame size of your Vegas project or a multiple of it. Then it will fit the frame without distortion..
