What gives with the DVD Architect versions?

I bought vegas studio platinum a couple months ago that has DVD architect bundled with it. I see on here, in the sticky note, that version 5 listed as an update as of january this year, yet the package I bought several months later came with 4.5

Normally I wouldn't care that much, but version 4.5 has crashed on me every time I've tried to use it. I have twice gotten a few movies added to the menu and had it crash when I went to make the dVD, but I've also had it crash during the process of trying to add movies.

So it says update, so I download version 5, but now they want a new serial number. What gives? Why did I get 4.5 when 5 had been out for quite a few months before the product I bought even started shipping?

I'm on Vista home basic 32 bit.

You have DVD Architect Studio, which is a stripped down edition of DVD Architect Pro. (Just as Vegas Movie Studio is a stripped down edition of Vegas Pro.)

DVDA Studio is on its version 4.5. DVDA Pro is on its version 5.0.

As for the crashes, I would say either something went wrong with your installation or something's wrong with your computer. I have never heard of either edition of DVDA crashing from such basic operations. First thing you should do is try re-installing. If that doesn't help, ask again but with more info (esp. any error messages you get at the time of crash). But you'd be better off posting to the Vegas Movie Studio forum. Most of the people using this (DVD Architect Software) forum have the Pro version, not the Studio one.

The free upgrade from 4.5 to 5.0 appeared a few days ago. Having 4.5, I downloaded the "free" upgrade ... and it caused such problems that I had to reinstall 4.5.

It must have been a mistaken offer as it has been withdrawn.

Hm? The free upgraded from DVDA Pro 4.5 to 5.0 has been out for several months. And it's still available.

What sort of problems did it cause for you? I haven't had any. The only problems I've heard about have been related to Blu-ray authoring, in which case returning to 4.5 wouldn't make any difference.

I don't often find the need to join in with a reply but ... this subject was covered months ago.

DVDA5 is only for Vegas Pro8 and does not work with Vegas Studio, whatever version. The DVDA4.5 with Studio is a different version to the DVDA4.5 that shipped with Vegas Pro8. This is all clear in the accompanying notes to the DVDA5 upgrade.

End of story and no need for further dialogue. I am not being rude, just trying ti help you avoid wasting further time and effort on the subject.
