What is a easy way to to do HDV in Vegas?

I mean, I don't understand most of the lingo I see in these forums. What is the bare bones easiest way to capture, edit HDV tape. I have a powerful computer with 2 gigs of ram. Can't I just attach my camera to the computer and do it like DV video? I have tried and as soon as it is almost finished with the capture, I get a error and lose it all. It all seems so complicated. I have been editing movies for years so it's not like I am new at this. I just can't seem to get into HDV editing. Where might I be going wrong? thanks so much, Roger

Working with HDV is the same as DV. If you get an error, then something else is wrong. Make sure you at least have the latest Vegas version.

If that doesn't work either, download the HDVSplit application and capture with that, and then load the .m2t files to Vegas.

In Belgium and Holland, HD editors are fond of this application: HDVSplit: http://www.videomontagefaq.nl/attachments/340/HDVSplit.0.77StaticBeta.zip
It helps capturing HD files, even if there are lost frames.
I have NO first hand experience with it, as I have no HD camera, so don't sue me if it doesn't work!
