Do most people have a computer for just video? If I made a video longer than an hour it would nearly a day to render. I made video which was about an hour long and it was over 10 hours to render. If it was closer to 2 hours I wouldn't be able to use my computer for about a whole day. I can't imagine this. What do most others do?
Well, I'm confused. Color correction, noise reduction,....... I don't do any of this in VMS. I only do things to the video. Add music, overlays and things. How on earth could you get this done in an hour? It is sooooo amusing to read "minimum requirements" for this program (and many others) I am sorry for soul with this minimum pc attempting to do any video editing.
IanG, I use the FOR-A 220 which has variable noise reduction, chroma delay and the usual proc amp controls (brightness, black level, color saturation, hue etc.). There are many such boxes by various manufacturers coming up frequently on eBay. I place it between the camera or the VCR and the PC. I also use a box for audio noise reduction, EQ and other audio filtering.
Nullone, if you're not doing any filtering I guess it's your "overlays and things" that are adding all the rendering time but I'm surpised that these take you 10 hours to render. On my system (P4 2.4 with 1GB) a movie with transitions, minimal overlays (titles), soundtrack etc. usually renders/encodes at a ratio of 1.33 to 1.
Why does mine take so long? I know the parts with just the orig sound and picture go fast but the beginning of the last project it was moving horrendously slow. Like 5-7 seconds per frames! Does changing the rate change it much? I took the first 12 minutes and squeezed it down a little to fit with 4 songs and the next segment was about 8 minutes and I made that go at 2:1 during the next song. After this it was much faster, but doing those two parts did take forreeeeever. I was quite shocked and took a screen print:
Yes, if you're resampling that would definitely slow things down as every frame has to be recalculated while it's rendering and encoding. I haven't done that so I don't know if it's taking way longer than it should or not. I don't know if you'd gain any time by pre-rendering those sections separately but it might be worth a try.
