If you want very good and totally hassle free, don't bother with an internal capture card. Look at an external converter such as the Canopus ADVC-100 and a firewire card. You should be able to pick up both for about $300. Yes, that's more expensive than one of the ATI boards, but the quality is much better and it is about as trouble-free as you can get. It's definately worth the price.

If you already have a DV camcorder that has a "pass through" mode, you would probably be able to use that in place of the external converter and still get the same result.

Thank you for your answer.
It seems that many people share the same opinion about the Canopus ADVC-100.

veliserdi,

TV-one also makes an external converter box, the DV-2001 DV-Analog Converter for $299. For more information, click on:

If all you need is a video capture card you could use a $40 ADS Pyro card. For analog to digital transcoding, your camera will probably work. Mine does.
