What is the best codec for motion JPEG?

Hi,

I have a camera (Fujifilm s602z) which can used as recorder. The movies recorded looked very good and sharp. But when view or used in VV3, the movies looked awful (dark, blocky...) I might have used a bad codec for motion JPEG (movies captured in motion JPEG format.) My question is anyone knows of a best motion JPEG codec (decoder)? Thanks.

MainConcept has a really decent Motion JPEG codec available and they happen to be having a "sale" on it via their web site, it's currently $15.

Alternately, the freeware video processor, Virtual Dub, has a built-in MJPEG decoder and you could use it to convert the footage to another format. Also, Virtual Dub has a lot of filters that can be used to improve the quality of your footage. Like brightness and contrast for example.

I had used the MC MJPEG codec for several years with VirtualDub and Premiere, but when I started using it with VV3 I found the clips played back with noticable colour contouring in VV3.

I changed to using the PICVideo codec ( http://www.pegasusimaging.com/picvideomjpeg.htm ) and find this works fine with VV3.

Thanks much owlsroost.
I will try PicVideo. MC MJPEG codec created colour contouring in my render too.
Now I just have to figure how to uninstall MC MJPEG.
