Actually the a good solution is probably to add a Canopus ADVC-100 (analog in and out) to your existing firewire card and not use up another PCI slot. The ADVC-50 also does analog capture but not print-to-tape, but it’s cheaper if you don’t need to go back to tape. If you don’t have a firewire card then Canopus also makes the ACEDVio or ADVC1394. Both have a firewire card for digital and do analog capture, the ACEDVio also does analog out (i.e, print-to-tape).
Stay away from any card made by Pinnacle Systems. They are proprietary hardware solutions that only work with Pinnacle software or the OEM software included in the box (i.e., Premiere) and not Vegas or any other software. I own a Pinnacle Studio Deluxe card and the analog input and output doesn’t work with Vegas.

Yes it is. It has worked perfectly for me. No problems whatsoever. On the other hand, the Canopus 1394 PCI capture card seems to have many problems with regard to losing recognition, thus requiring a reboot. Not a good thing if you're in the middle of a capture. I had similar problems and took it back. The Canopus ADVC-100 has performed flawlessly for me.

I second that. The proprietary Pinnacle hardware will, however, work with Scenalyzer, but that's about it. There are other issues with Pinnacle that warrant avoiding their products at all costs.
If you are capturing from Analog Composite RCA or SVHS - The ADVC-100 should be fine. If you are capturing Analog Component - Then there are other choices.
If you don't have a firewire card, or don't want to use the ADVC-100, I've used 2 different analog capture cards that work. At work I am currently using the ATI AIW 7500. It supports capturing directly to MPEG-2, AVI, and WMV. You can configure the settings on those any way you wish (bit reate, frame size, etc.). If you use Vegas Vidcap with it, it captures uncompressed AVI. I ended up using the ATI capture software. I can capture 8mbs, 640x480, 16 bit, stereo mpeg-2's (all i frames) that work well in vegas, and are MUCH HIGHER QUALITY then the Matrox RT2500 mpeg-2 captured files! (1 hour = ~3.2gb) :) this card can be obtained for about $135-150 on pricewatch.com. It also captured audio for you.
I personly use a Cibermedia capture card. It does 640x480 @ 30fps AVI's. I ended up using the huffy encoder. It doesn't capture audio. It cust me about $30.
There's 2 recomendations. IF you play games and want the ATI, get eigther the AIW 8500 or 9700. They are better 3d cards.

kentwolf, I didn’t realize people were having problem with this card. Thanks for the info. I won’t recommend it in the future.

That’s because Pinnacle has a bug in their software that they can’t seem to fix which causes audio sync problems and they gave Andreas the proprietary information to allow his program to capture but they wouldn’t give him the information to let it print back to tape! Proving their intentions to keep users tightly tied to their software. Stay away from companies like this.
