Ok, try this thread for the differences between formats . . may help you

http://www.idkvideo.com/faq2.html

OK . ..

"What is the best way to render a project to burn to DVD?

1/- As far as I know DVDs are only made using MPEGs

2/- AVIs, compared to MPEGs, are huge, HUGE!

3/- There are good converters getting AVI to MPEG .. .I believe DVDA and Vegas has some of the best.

4/- The MPEG conversion process makes fine products !

5/- Render/conversion times are things we all have to live with . .. sorry!

6/- I can go two routes:

Route No.1 > Convert within Vegas

Route No.2 > Convert within DVDA2

However, prior to going near the conversion I create a fully rendered DV-AVI. The value of this is that I will have:

1/- A backup file of the pre DVD encoding [ sorry, conversion is called "Encoding" ]

2/- You make a mistake - least of which, for me anyways, is spilling - you got a very quick fallback with the DV-AVI to re-edit and then re-encode.

3/- Saving rendering time. Having a completed DV-AVI, with all the complex maths that go on with complex projects, you've got all this done first - yeah?

So much for you to get hold of. But once you've burnt your first DVDs you'll take to it very fast . .. you will have forgotten this post . .. and you'll be reading posts here and thinking, "Ah, yes, it can be confusing" . . .

Best regards,

Grazie

ps: If you knew all this, apologies. But others do read these posts and if it hasn't helped you, it may have helped others.

"While it is possible to use the MainConcept MPEG-2 plug-in to produce good quality MPEG-2 files for SVCD or other purposes, "
