What is the best way to split a project in two?

I have a forty minute video project that I want to split into 2 different 20 minute parts. What is the best way to go about doing this? Do I just open another instance and copy and paste? Will this crash the program? Is their another way of going about doing this?

Better yet, save the project into a new file under a new name. Now in each one you can cut out the half you don't want.

... and after splitting go into View + Project Media and click the lightning button in the upper left corner and save again - that will purge all unused media making i.e. opening of the 2 projects faster.
