Downloading Vegas 2.0g (the update) will update your LE version and shared components. You'll still have LE, just with all the latest bug fixes.

Here's where to get it: http://www.sonicfoundry.com/download/step2.asp?DID=219

I took your advice and downloaded the update for Vegas Audio 2.0g, with the understanding that it would detect an *LE* version on my computer and keep it as such. Unfortunately, it seemed to write over my *LE* version (it took the icon off my desktop), installed the full version (it added a non-*LE* icon to my desktop), and then pestered me for a new serial number for Vegas Audio 2.0g, which I don't have. (Was I supposed to enter my old Vegas *LE* number?) Needless to say I uninstalled it and put back my Vegas Audio 2.0c *LE*. What did I do wrong? Shouldn't it have kept everyrthing in an *LE* format? I didn't have this much trouble updating my Sound Forge 5.0.

Yes, use the LE number.

This link is for VegasVideo - does it matter for LE whether you get VegasVideo or VegasAudio? Both are build 415.

Thanks

Hi,

Well, I asked the above whilst 50% through downloading VegasVideo and then I tried installing it. 2.0g now insists on W98SE whereas Audio LE 2.0c didn't.

I have W98 with the bug fix patches.

If I upgrade from LE to Audio 2.0 does this mean I have to pay money to Microsoft as well?

Thanks

If you upgrade to the full blown Vegas and get the latest version 2.0g you will need to have Win 98SE. The last version of Vegas that supported just plain 98 was 2.0c. This holds true for all the versions of Vegas (Vegas Video, Vegas Audio, Vegas Audio LE). Hope this helps.

So can I upgrade and stay with 2.0c for a while, and if I do will I encounter any showstoppers or miss out on any new features?

Essentiall here are the bug fixes for the update from 2.0d to 2.0g (sorry I no longer has the list from 2.0c upward)

Vegas Audio users may now choose to purchase the Sonic Foundry MPEG plug-in for reading and writing MPEG1 and MPEG2 files. This plug-in can be unlocked from within the application- no need for a separate download. To purchase electronically, simply select ".mpg" as a render option in Vegas and follow the on screen prompts.
Several crashes related to Waves audio plug-ins have been fixed.
Sonic Foundry VideoFactory projects are now compatible with Sonic Foundry Vegas.
Improved alpha channel handling for .psd and .png formats.
Please note that registration is required for the MP3 plug-in.
The new Vegas .avi plug-in auto-segments avi files during render (a new file segment is created once you hit the system file size limit.)

If you are dealing with audio only most of the stuff mentioned will not make a difference to you. Other than the above mentioned fixes/enhancements there really would not be any show stoppers. Hope this helps. Also it is probably important to mention that you would want to unlock the version that you already have. You can do this simply by calling 1-800-577-6642 and a Customer Service Rep can give you an activation code.

OK thanks Dave...

Looks like I'll have to to splash out on a new computer to go with my brand new WIN98SE and SF program suite... :-)

Hi,

What is the technical reason for not supporting W98FE any more? I know it's supposed to be a bit more stable but it really pains me to participate in this Microsoft upgrade scam.

Thanks
