Which temp directory are you pointing at. Every time I want to clean all unused files ( also temp of User Appdata) I give my Norton the command to clean my system, costs 3 sec. of time.
Tempory files go with me to a partition on my fastest SSD, where I also render to. I'm using Advance Save also on the same location and every day by shutting down the hardware that location is total cleaned after a controle if a veg has to be stored for a longer time somewhere else by copy/paste.
@j-v - OK. I should’ve asked, what, if ANY of the range of files in that Veg Temp folder do you NOT delete? I’m asking because when I try and stick them in my RUBBISH Folder I get a warning saying that several of them are duplicates. Now to me that has to mean that those Files, with the long numbering, aren’t actually unique, and that must mean that when they are originally generated they are done so without them being different to others. This makes me conclude that leaving these Temp files, as it were, live, would make the saving process, challenged and not good for the auto saving process.
OK, after getting a series of crashes, and needing to use the BAK file to get going/working again it’s only when I MOVE all the Temp files into my Rubbish Folder that I don’t get any FURTHER crashes. So, what is it that releases my work to get going again? Is it what I’m suggesting that the non-uniqueness of the file naming generation isn’t UNIQUE at all? This is resulting and, that when I have Auto Saving employed there is confusion setting in? If this is true then this might also be at the root of many issues that others get.
What do you, @j-v , or others think of my analysis?
Sorry @Grazie, I cannot follow you. You use VP 17 I see on your first screenshot here. Which "Auto Saving" are you using? I don't have that option, with me it is called "Advanced Save" and there I use the following settings
All with the goal when un unexpected crash is happening to have a last backup available. When I'm ready editing I delete those so called "Minor Backups".
Further I save my Projects with follow number every day at its place and location with the name of the project on my Projects location on a seperated disc. Sometime also "a save as" at that location and if a project is all clear and rendered I keep only the Veg file plus nested vegs.
"Select this check box to create a temporary project file that can aid in crash recovery. This file is saved every five minutes, and your original project is not overwritten. "
@j-v Thanks. I even did not even know about the new in-build backup. Not really important for me as VP stable on my systems and I'm "Ctrl+S God" follower. Anyway, good to know.
