What kind of dvd media do you use?

Apologies if this is an off topic, but I bought these Imation DVD+Rs. And the foil seems to bend very easily. I had lost 5 dvds in what I though were just simple errors. But when I looked at the dvd surface, you could see the blue foil bend. Is this dues to the media being cheap? Or maybe my burner is to hot?? Any ideas??

Be more specific. Are you saying one layer is pulling away from the others? Does it only happen after you burn or do you see it also on unburned discs? I haven't use Imation brand DVD's, but have used their CD's with success.

It appears after I burn. And it appears to happen in the same general area. ABout 1/5 from the core. During burning, an error would occur. I assumed a simple program error util it happened about 3 consecutive times which is unusual. So I looked at the surrface and noticed the foil pulled upwoards right at the edge of the last burn ring.

Odd. That's a new one for me. If you see physical damage in several burned DVD's at roughly the same spot I sure would think the burner could be doing something to them or that the media is out of flat (warped) and that's what's causing in or something strange. I'd check the web site of the media maker and drop them an emial and maybe the burner maker too. Stange.

It could be you have a bad batch of disks.

The way to determine whether the problem is with the disks or the burner is to 1) try a different kind of disk (Maxell, TDK, etc.) in the burner or 2) try one of the Imation disks in someone else's burner. That should help you isolate the culprit.

Jake makes a good point. Good troubleshooting route to take.

Here is another POV. Although, like Billy, I haven't used the DVDs yet - I have been using the CDs for years and pretty much swear by them. I haven't had one problem with any of their disks.

Oh, for sure, I have burned my share of coasters - but that has always been due to a PC problem (buffer underrun, power getting shut off, etc).

If three consecutive discs have the (almost) exact same issue - I would find it very hard to believe that it is the disc. I would highly suggest burning a few CDs to see if the same issue is cropping up. They are much cheaper (ya know).

Testing the DVD in another person's burner is a good idea too - but my money is on your burner.

Gremlins perhaps stuck a paperclip in the disc holder. :-)

I'm not really sure. I could be a bad batch. I doubt if its my burner because I burned about 5 cdr successfully as well as a few Fugi dvdrs without any problems. Then I went back to Imation and and lost one, had a successful burn and then lost another. I am using a 50pack and have lost more than I want to admit. Once I go through the whole dvd pack, I'll report my final loss to success ratio. Pehaps a bad batch. Thats why I was asking. Seeing if someone had success with them. I'm the only one I know with a dvd burner in my area. So I can't do that test.

Thanks for the responces!
