What other CD software does what CD Architect used to?

Well, I've read (with much dismay) the discussion about the
discontinuing of real support for CD Architect.
The suggestion for making an "open source community" for
developing support for new CD-R drives is a great one, but
obviously depends upon SF's cooperation to make the core
techniques available.
In the meantime... I'm looking for a different CD burning
package. Several competing products have now finally made
it possible to get rid of the default 2-second gap between
tracks, but does anyone know (from actual experience) which
packages, if any, make it possible to create fade-in/fade-
outs between tracks the way you could do in CD Architect?
...and, very importantly, to place selectable
track "beginnings" at any desired point in the CD?

Those were the features that kept me from going anywhere
else but CD Architect. But now I have a new drive, so I can
no longer use CD Architect.
Any suggestions? (I don't want to buy a whole new mastering
environment, a la Steinberg... I just want/need a new
package for ordering the tracks on my CD and arranging
their selection-points the way I want them.)
Thanks, all...

Unfortunately I know of *no* other such software.

CD-Architect was unique in that it allowed custom and
infinitely-flexible crossfades; and complete control
over track index editing.

No other cd-mastering software on the market does that,
as far as I'm aware. Several pieces of software, I've
heard, can handle a portion of those features, but so
far I've not heard of any that can do it all.

Sonic Foundry had the corner on the market for audio-
cd burning. And they threw it away, even when they had
no competitors. Go figure. Here's hoping they will in
fact be enlightened enough to support an "open source
community" for this product.

Good luck,
Ojo

P.S. If by chance you have access to Goldenhawk's
CDRWIN program (an excellent program for general
mastering), and it supports your drive, I would highly
recommend Colin Hill's little utility that will take
a saved CD-Architect file and convert it to use with
that program.

emagic's Waveburner (www.emagic.de) does about the same job.
Unfortunately it is only available for Mac at the moment. Let's hope
they'll release it for Windows soon.
