Can you add to this list of things that PTT doesn't do that Vegas does do? And just as important how do you accomplish these things with the tools within Vegas and PTT?
- you can't "copy" a text box and paste it somewhere else like you can events and most everything in Vegas.
-- but you can save the entire work area as a preset so you can use that title again or use it as a template. If you create a title you'd like to use again including text and keyframes you can save them to a collection. Click the Save to Collection button to save a keyframe row as a preset. The Collection menu is displayed with an edit box so you can type a name for the collection. To recall a preset, click the Collections menu at the bottom of the workspace and drag a preset to the timeline in the automation controller/timeline.
- you can't copy "keyframes".
-- But you can easily add keyframes with the same attributes. In the automation controller/timeline, double-click the position where you want to add a keyframe. The new keyframes attributes are copied from the previous keyframe to allow you to make subtle changes without recreating all your settings.
- There is no "sync" cursor that aligns with the Vegas timeline like there is in pan crop.
-- But you can access the Vegas timeline without closing PTT. This is the key to timing your title as we do with "sync" cursor.
It may not answer all situations but it does help. Not a substitute for a real sync cursor.
- you can't apply a collection to an existing text box like you can apply filters to events.
-- But you can learn to use the automation/timeline to do all the effects within the collections and apply them to any existing title. Use the collections to learn how things work.
- You can't just slide keyframes along the automation/timeline like in the old text generator or pan crop.
-- But - After you've set your keyframes/envelope points, you may need to adjust their positions along the timeline. Drag a keyframe to a new position to move it. Hold Ctrl while clicking to select multiple keyframes. Press and hold Shift before dragging to move an envelope point vertically without changing its horizontal position. Press and hold Alt before dragging to move an envelope point horizontally without changing its vertical position.
Anyone else have some things that PTT CAN'T DO THAT VEGAS DOES. The underlined sentences above are copied from the plug-in help within PTT Personally, I'm using PTT more and more and, for those of us doing so, more PTT tips are needed here while we are all waiting for 9.0D or what ever is next.
