What RCA/ S video to USB will VMS use?

Is there an anaolg to digital converter (RCA audio/ video & "S" Video to USB 2.0) that VMS will recognize? Does Sony make one? i picked up the Dazzle 85 set because the piece of hardware has exactly the inputs i needed. i figured i'll just use the hardware (the converter described above) and skip using the pinnacle software it comes with. NOT! naive of me yes, but it seemed exactly the converter (connection wise) i need and the cheapest at $50. as i feared the hardware is encoded (or whatever you call it) to only work with the software. VMS capture doesn't recognize the hardware. but i don't want to install pinnacle software on my computer just to use the converter. would kind of defeat having VMS plus the word on pinnacle here is rarely good.

been trying to figure this one out for a while even though it seems so simple. any help greatly appreciated!

As a newbie myself, I was encountering an out of sync issue when attempting to capture VHS tapes to my HD and was recommended to purchase a Digital Converter. The brand that was suggested to me was a Canopus. I purchased the model ADVC110 and have never looked back. For company info, go here;

VMS will want to see Firewire connection to import directly. You can take a look at this if you don't want to install pinnacle. The other option is to call your friends and find one with a video camera with a "pass through" feature and borrow it. (i.e vcr>camera>firewire>computer>VMS

if you look up and click the lower "search" link next to the "forums" link and search these forums you will find a bunch of stuff on the topic. I guess the keywords would be "analog" or "converter" or perhaps "import"

thanks all. very helpful.

can you really see a marked difference for the extra hundred or so dollars your spending on the Canopus advc55 over the ADS Tech Pyro a/v link which is already pricey in itself (for my budget)?

what about the Plextor stuff has anyone tried theirs? they have 2, $70 and $125. i don't think a converter should outcost the price of VMS. i mean, i just really wonder how much difference you'd see with these 3 companies side by side. and Sony's not putting anything on the table? that i don't get.

"can you really see a marked difference for the extra hundred or so dollars your spending on the Canopus advc55 over the ADS Tech Pyro a/v link" (correction: advc110)

the above link is a comparison. i'd be curious what your opinion of it is.
