What's a good way to back up all my footage and vegas files?

I have been searching for a way to back up all of my footage and vegas files that are on my computer. I know that eventually my hard drive could crash and I could lose everything. I have a lot of vegas files stored on CD's, but I need another way to store them, incase the cds get scratched or become unreadable. Is there some sort of data tape system which I can buy that will have enough space to put footage and vegas files on, and be relitivly inexpensive? I need some other way to back up files besides using DVD and CD's. Thanks!

There was a long post within the past month on this issue. Some really clever ideas about different ways to do this, including backing up only the non-AVI files, and then relying on Vegas' recapture ability to recreate the whole project (i.e., you keep all your original, raw video tapes and use them, if ever needed, to re-create the project).

There were also discussions about how to use the often-neglected (well, I didn't know about it) "Copy and trim medai with project" check box that appears when you save a Vegas project. Use the forum search and you'll find these discussions.

FWIW -
I've been using discrete hard drives for each project that I do, linked into Vegas via Firewire. (Great little connector at www.wiebetech.com)

I put all the video assets, individual graphics, music, sound effects, the Vegas VEG files, plus scripts, budget, correspondance - Everything - on the outboard drive.
As I work, I drag copies of the VEG files to the main C: drive as a temporary backup.
At the end of the job I unplug the outboard drive from the Firewire connection, put it in a little box on the shelf, and that is my archive - everything together in one place.
It works great, and with hard drives at under a buck a gig, it's simply the best way.

Hard drives are by far the fastest and most sensible backup, unless you have a fairly small project and you can store the avi files on a DVD as data, not MPEG.
Would be nice if there was a script that would make 2 copies for every veg file saved, one in the project location and another on a different drive. Media 100, Blade, and a few other tools offer this function.
