What's "IMO" & "PIV" stand for, and what's the story on New "C" series P4s

I hate to show my ignorance, but many people were kind enough to answer a posting I made, and I got hit with terms I'm not familiar with. "IMO" "PIV", and a few others. Also, what's the difference between the standard P4s, and the "C" P4s. One more thing, I would appreciate an opinion on the following system: An Intel D845PEBT2 motherboard, an Intel 3.06GHz CPU, 2GB Samsung DDR 333 RAM, a SoundBlater Live Platinum sound card, a Matrox 550 dual display video card, one 40GB Western Digital HD with the 8MB cache (for the operating system), and two 200GB Western Digital 8MB cache hard drives in a raid array. I can get this system for about $1.500.00. Any suggestions on a better configuration, for the same money, would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for any help.

Seems that people are in such a hurry that they can't actually spell out what they want to say.

IMO meand In My Opinion.
PIV can have different meanings depending on where it is used and how old you are. Sometimes it means Private.

IMHO means In My Humble (Ha) Opinion.

BTW means By the Way.

OT means Off the Topic (of the forum).

Hope all that helps a bit. HATHAB

(No, I don't do that, too many people don't know what the alphabet soup means, and it is, in my humble opinion, discourteous to use it. A bit too much like the Army and IRS for my taste.)

Vegas 4 is the major release.
It has been updated, 4.0a, 4.0b, and now 4.0c. These updates are essentally polishing the gem. No new features, just fixes and the like.

You can download the latest version on this site. Just look at the top right of the screen for DOWNLOADS and follow the yellow brick road. Enjoy

Ok first of,
the Pentium C stepping is the latest p4 cpu from Intel. Here are the differences :

Pentium 4 : 400 mhz system bus
Pentium 4b : 533 mhz system bus
pentium 4c : 800 mhz system bus.

If you want to have a P4C cpu, your motherboard must support the 800 mhz bus, also, you will need 400mhz DDR memory.

As for you configuration, I would replace the motherboard with one of another brand, Intel boards are more expensive and not faster. I would suggest you get an Asus or gigabyte board with the 865p chipset that supports 800mhz (c) P4 cpus. I would then take a 3.0 or 3.2 gigahertz cpu. Don't worry taking the 3.0 cpu over the 3.06, the system bus speed will make up the difference. 2 gig of ram is a bit overkill, I would get 1 gig of 400mhz memory in dual channel mode, new motherboards support a fuction called dual channel, meaning that if you have 2 dimms of 512 megs of ram, it will run faster that one dimm of 1 gb, because it'll be in 2 channel operation.
I personnaly prefer seagate over WD because they are quieter, performance wise I don't care much.
That's about it... good luck

I like your system (too expensive for me :( ) but I for the amount of$$$ you're spending, get a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 (did I spell that right?). I would also think that you would be better off getting a duel Xeon system vs the faster p4. From what I've read of P4 vs Xeon, the Xeon should be picked if you got the cash (for video work and such), and looks like you got the cash. Goto www.morherboards.org for comparisons.

For posting a lot of tech questions, you were at least polite and said "Thank you." :)
