I am as well buying a DVD burner soon. But i am quite confused about the different types of DVDs. What are the difference between DVD-R,DVD+R,DVD+RW,DVD-RW? So, what's the best DVD burner anybody can recommend....for the V4+DVD package.
I use the HP200i (+R and +RW formats) and the Pioneer A04 (-R and -RW formats). The Sony drive which can do both formats would be my drive of choice. I believe having both formats gives you, the DVD creator, a high percentage of DVD burning compatibility with set top DVD players. I used to think that DVD-R was the most compatible, but then I had a customer who wouldn't read one. So I gave them a DVD+R and they were happy. Anyway, my $.02.
ral8667,
could you give me the exact model of the sony drive u mentioned... i just really wanna make sure that before i buy a dvd drive... it will work perfectly with vegas DVDA.....coz i bought the v4+dvd one.....
thanks
The drive name is Sony DRU500A but I think Sony has a drive comming out name DRU500AX. I do not own any of them but I'm trying to buy one: I'm short in cash :-)
Here is a link to Amazon for some information:
I use the Sony DRU500A firmwear update 1.0g This is a internal drive in my PC and I like it very much have had no problems with it. It burns -R -RW +r and +RW
I have a SONY DRX-500UL external
with FW(Sony calls it i.Link)and USB2 connection.
Got it a week ago and its connected to my Pc with FireWirecable to a FW card.
It works perfect with all DVD formats.
I use Nero (latest update) for burning my DVDA projects until the DVDA update arrives.

Aje - Just done some research! nearly £300 inc taxes! What that in $$$? - A wee bit expensive - so far. They must drop in price? Basically an extra £100 for having out of the laptop.
I am interested in the Sony DRV 500 AX. Has anybody seen any good buys on them. I am still a little confused by the -RW and +RW. If I buy the DRV500AX, which will burn both formats, I understand +RW is the superior format so imagine it to be more sensible to burn in that format for my own use. But if I were sending copies to other people the -RW format may be more useful as that is the most widely used format and this will not read +RW. Is that true and does it make sense?
Also, are they compatible to both burn and read in NTSC and PAL?
