WHAT's THE HELL: Another BUG !!!

mike_2004z wrote on 6/6/2004, 10:39 PM

Ok,

Have a video file, set a whole bunch of chapter points. Preview the video and try the on-screen remote to to to next chapter point - NOT.

How the HELL can SONY missed something as trivial like this (beside the text disappering problem). The more I tried to like DVDA-2, the more I hate it and I DO REALLY QUESTION THE QUALITY CONTROL PROCESS of SONY. Are they TEST the software at all or just release it as fast as possible to that to try to compeate with the like of DVD-LAB, DVDWS v2, SONIC ......

Are we BETA Tester for DVDA-2 ??? This is unacceptable and we users should DEMAND some kind of fix ASAP.

I am new to this forum so perhaps someone else should
can start athread which lists
bugs, short comings and missed opportunities only.
We should also request users who are 100% happy with the product to help by not clouding the issues outstanding.

I tried to duplicate your problem. Result? I found no problem. Everything worked as expected.

Took a video file and added multiple chapter points. Went to preview and clicked the "next" button and sure enough, the next chapter started playing.

No bug.

Yeah that's it, no problem at all. Still can't find the text problem...Text disappearing? When? How? Can't reproduce the problem here. It seems Mahesh has something personal against DVDA2. Just take a look at some of his other messages posted around here. Hey Mahesh, don't take this too hard. If you like DVD WS2, that's OK! Keep it for ya, lol. Well, good luck everybody!

Ok,

Sorry, it was my bad (got used to DVDA-1). The Pre/Next chapter buttons do work !! What I meant was the left/right buttons on the large dial of the remote. In DVDA-1, those 2 buttons are used to navigate chapters -- so what are they for in version 2 (doesn't do any thing for me)?

I have had NO problems with DVDA-2 (nor 1 for that matter). I've hit a couple of snags with VV5, but a smple email/call to customer/tech support has resolved the problem quickly every time. After 30 years in the business, I can honestly say the quality of products and services from Sony (and Sonic Foundry), is UNUSUALLY GOOD, if only all vendors were so cooperative.
Good luck with getting rid of the grimlins plagueing your efforts Mike.

The buttons on the large dial are for navigating between buttons on menus. Always have been. :-)

That's what they were for in DVDA 1, too. They never skipped between chapter points for me, but then I never tried. I might have DVDA1 still installed on one of my computers -- will try that out and see what happens.

"Yeah that's it, no problem at all. Still can't find the text problem...Text disappearing? When? How?"

If you create a project and set object properties>highlite>none(transparent) the buttons show up in preview but won't in the final product. This is as it should be. However, if you apply any other text to your project that till be trasparent as well in the final product.

For example. If I want to use highlight masks to create an arrow that points to the chapter I want to play, I have to set the masks to be trasparent unless I move to them. If I then want to add a text title to the menu page I have to do that in Vegas. In DVDA the simple text assumes the properties of the buttons.

It shows up in preview but try it in a software player and you will see it.

As far as the remote in preview mode goes, I like it. I also like that I am able to set the way the highlight moves from button to button.

cworld29,
I'm sorry but I can't reproduce the problem here. Have you already e-mailed SONY? I'll keep trying to help you, trying to reproduce around here the same problem you've got.
:)

Yep, I emailed Sony on Saturday. I expect a reply in the next couple days or so. I'm not in any hurry. I was just reading one of Mikes previous posts where he describes this problem and thought i would try to duplicate it. I was able to using the settings I described above.

If anyone is interested I can go into a more detailed explanation of my project settings later this evening.

I haven't had such luck with Sony's tech/customer support. My first question took over 3 weeks to answer and I am going on week 2 for my reply to the answer that Josh gave me (Customer support manager).

As far as I am concerned Sony's support system is lacking in a big way..

Odd, I've been doing business with them since Vegas Video (no number, the original), and have NEVER had to wait more than a few hours for help. If I was waiting for days (or weeks), I think I'd try again as a reminder. Then again, maybe I've just been very lucky, a bunch of itmes.

The text disappearing is a known bug that they are workign on (at least that is what I read in a previous thread).

Although there have been some great modifications to DVDA2 - some things just need to be worked out. That's just the way it happens from time to time. DVDA1 (I thought) was a great little application. I'm digging DVDA2 as well.

I've considered myself lucky...all the times that I've had to call Sony, I got assistance right away. But then...they probably knew it was me on the phone!
