WHAT'S THIS ERROR MESSAGE? Pls Help!

When I go to capture video in Vegas 5 I get an error message--"Can't capture video--this is an unsupported format." What does that mean. It's there whether I'm using my firewire from my DV camera or running through my Canopus. Yes, I have my preferences set for OCHS device. Can anyone talk me through what I need to do or where I need to look? TIA
Burt

PS--I will never upgrade Vegas again. I have had enough problems with this one!

What 1394 card are you using, what DV camera, and what other video software do you have installed?

I have a Sony VX-1000 and a Sony Viao Computer 2.0 gig which has a built in 1394 card. This works perfectly with V4. I also have V4 still installed. Could that be the problem?
Thank you very much for your help.

You can really use Vegas 4 right now to capture? If that's the case, you could point Vegas 5 to the Vegas 4 capture app and use the old capture app (specify path in Vegas 5 prefs)...this will work.

I'll try that...but what happens when I want to go to Vegas 5 for good and eliminate V4?

Can you be more specific about WHICH preferences and where located? And what to look for?

Thank you

Options/Preferences/Video tab. You'll see a setting for "Preferred video capture application." You can browse to your Vegas 4 folder and find "vidcap40.exe" (I think that's what it's called; its "vidcap50.exe" in Vegas 5).
