what's up with mpeg-4

There's been a lot of chat about mpeg-4...

Seeing that VMS doesn't support this, what exactly is it - am I missing out somehow by not having mpeg 4 capability? Does it provide better image/sound quality over mpeg-2 upon rendering to a DVD?

I didn't find much for answers in a Google search.

I believe (Sony)admin says if you download and install the latest free version of Quick time it will improve VMS's ability to deal with mpeg-4 . . . with the codecs that it brings to the computer. You can pay for more support with the pro version. The codecs get added to your system (pool) and Vegas can use it from that point. If you do a search in this forum {the search button just up to your right next to forums} on mpeg-4 or quicktime in the last couple of weeks you can find what they(Sony admin) said exactly.

MPEG 4 is just another very highly compressed video format. It's relatively small size makes it popular for downloading but there's no quality gain.
