What’s up with the masks?

Rory Cooper wrote on 7/5/2009, 11:58 PM

If I create a double key mask I always have to do the outer ring positive and the inner neg which is correct
If I do the inner first no go

Or if I create a multiple mask copy the media event for each double key mask then delete the unwanted masks for that track
Because I need the masks to line up ..no go

Anybody got a solution is there something I am missing?

Thanks
Rory

not quite sure what you mean. Can you post an image?

Stephen I will send you a veg file

I often save veggies and use them as 3d transitions

So in the ring for example it would be easy to mask all the rings
Copy the track and delete what you don’t need for each track

But you always have to mask the outside ring as posy and then the inside ring negy
If you do it the other way it doesn’t work ????

Why cant I mask from the inside out?

If you start on the inside, then do the outside, wouldn't you be masking the first mask???

ok, I see now. I had to install Vegas 9 to look @ the veggies. After I turned off THE HORROR that was the "color scheme for people who sit 1" from their monitor in complete black & live in their grandma's basement" I then loaded up the veggies.

So I did some testing. It looks like the reason it works this way is because when you add a new mask curve it's layering them: the newer one is always on top. So when you start with the hole & put the outside on top, obviously it wouldn't show through. Just like if you wanted a black circle with a white circle in an image in gimp/pshop: if you make a layer with the white circle & then on a layer above put the larger black circle, you wouldn't see the white. You'd have to do it the other way. Only issue is, you can't actually tell how they're layered in vegas. :'(

Ok the bell just rang Stephen that makes sense

Like any graphic arrangement the last will be on top..so simple

Lynn that’s the way I was thinking but you need two circle masks to create 1 ring
So if you create the inside first which is smaller then the outside which is bigger and since they are arranged with the last on top
The first smaller mask will be obscured by the last bigger mask

That’s why graphic editing programs you can always set the arrangement but in Vegas you cant
