What software is needed for beginner (newbie)?

I am an experienced editor.. I have a client that has several mini tapes that he wants to Trnasfer himself,because there are so many. I need to know which basic software vegas product that he need to order. He needs a product that would also
allow him to render and burn to disc,Can someone help me out ? John

Well, he could certainly do it with Windows Live MovieMaker, which is free with Windows. It's as easy to use as iMovie and it will do everything from capture video, to edit, to add titles and effects to output a DVD.

Otherwise, if he doesn't mind the slight learning curve, you can't beat Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 (which includes DVD Architect disc-creation software)!

If the tapes are MiniDV then he doesn't even need the HD version and can save a few bucks going for the regular version.
