What to render as?

Ok, the video camera I bought (canon opturePI) says it has a progressive scan ccd. Does that mean that when I am printing to tape, I should render as progressive mode before outputting to the tape?

The reason I'm asking is because on several shots, (a church choir), when panning left to right, there is a lot of distortion in the shot. I know that panning across vertical lines isn't the easiest thing to do, but the original tape looks ok, but after editing and printing back out, it looks horrible. I used progressive output when I rendered the avi.

The camera has two modes when taping. Movie mode and progressive. When in progressive mode, the video looks jerky, like stop motion. I've checked the manual for the camera, but all it says is "Progressive Scan CCD!!!" Doesn't really go into any detail about it.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Progressive scan (as I understand it) is for people who are trying to acheive the "film look". The problem is that many cameras shoot progressive in 15 fps (like my Sonys). How does it look in your cam screen when shooting? Just wave it across the room, if jerky, use the regular mode
