What tool to use?

Hello.

I'm trying to change the background (the almost white screen) in the movie below to 100%-white without affecting the actors colours.

Do you have any ideas which tools I could use in Vegas 5 to achieve this?
I have tried using the brightness control and this makes the background 100% white but it also affects the actor, making him much too white.

If you could have a look at another topic I have in this forum it would be great!

Depends a lot on the exact color of the background and whether any of that color appears in what you want to keep. Also, if the background is truly much lighter than the foreground, that will help.

I would first try the Secondary Color Corrector and see if you can get it to only affect the background, based on luminosity and color. I you can, then you can blow out the background (set it to 100% white).

You might also be able to use color curves, and put a hard "toe" at the top of the curve, if there are no other "almost white" sections of the video, except the background.

You may have to use Bezier curves to mask out portions of the video, if you are not able to select only the portion of the video you want, using the above techniques.

Thanks, those tools proved to be very useful for the task I had at hand!

When you are trying to change just one color, the Secondary Color Corrector is your tool. The problem comes in when that color is also used elsewhere in the same clip.
