what vegas NEEDS ...

been there and done that here, but this is a list of essentials -

Weve asked for these or variations of these for a number of years, and to be honest, Im abotu a breath away from leavin vegas and spending 2 months (at the risk of lost productivity) simply because Vegas is yetto have teh ability to do this..

- Auto Levels. Ie scope analysise and auto adjustment of levels. Using ONE selected frame as a reference, vegas analysises the scope and stretches and crushes using levels as required

- Auto WB ie, using a dropper or intelligent WB to even out discrepancies. Camera Match function to shift RGBs repsectively. Auto level option as a tag on element to this

- PROGRESSIVE SCAN SLOWMOTION. How many times do we have to mention this?

- Proper field order detection.
Have u ever captured downconverted HDV from an A1... as DV... thrown it on your timeline... ??
What field order is it? Upper... WHY??
All clips need to be manually shifted (or using a script) back to lower field
if u dont... try run this footage as slowmotion and render out to progressive scan... look at the results... what do u see...

I am sick to death of Vegas inability to recognise field orders, progressive scan files rendered FROM vegas (be it uncompressed, sony YUV or Huffy YUV... (go figure) and i could go on...

ok thats my rant for the day...

"- PROGRESSIVE SCAN SLOWMOTION. How many times do we have to mention this?"

And how many times do we ask you show us any NLE that can do it?

You stubbornly refuse to accept the obvious, it cannot be done. You can sort of, maybe fudge it but not reliably. Why the heck do you think a fortune is spent on high speed cameras if it could be done in software?

The rest I kind of agree with although I've learned enough to stay out of harms way / just get on with it.

PP from CS3 onwards can do it with its optical flow.

Very popular feature on the Adobe Worldwide Tour.

After Effects with Twixtor is seriously good for this also.

as well as FCP...

Bob u and i both know the limitations of Vegas... and we know the workarounds for what we need... what im saying is that further dev is needed for V to keep up..
Have u seen CS4? this entire package is incredible...

"Have u seen CS4?"

I have CS2, 3 and 4. Haven't installed 4 as yet. There's enough in 3 to keep me going for a long time.
I bought CS2 simply because Vegas doesn't support Prospect2K and the rest just kind of rolled along from that.
I think Vegas is better implemented than Ppro but the design of Ppro is way more advanced. It and AE are still the only applications I know of that support active metadata.

Then I suggest you move to it immediately. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a built-in spell checker, which is what you seem to need worse than anything.
