Now that SONY (and not Sonic Foundry) owns Video Vegas, what will happen to this forum which is obviously sponsored by Sonic Foundry. Will it continue? Will SONY have it's own? Will it just disappear? and when?
The beauty of the internet is: If something disappears, there is always someone willing to replace it. I have seen forums come and go. The new forums are sometime much better because they don't have the "Company's" influence. This forum has been great. There has been little if any "Company" influence. I believe this is due to the superior products. Happy customers make for a excellent forums. I have seen several forums ruined by "flaming" due to participants egos and dissatisfaction with the product.
Sure, but remember Sony have bought the software, not the company and it is the company Sonic Foundry that hosts these forums. The question is competely valid and in need of an answer.
<<The question is competely valid and in need of an answer.>>
The question is certainly valid, and, while most of us are curious to see what will happen, I think it a bit strong to state that we actually "need" an answer.
SOFO is certainly out of the picture as to the future of this excellent forum, and will no doubt make no changes during this interim period. Until the acquisition transaction is completed, Sony will be making no changes.
I have spent most of my forum time here in the Vegas (video/audio) section, sometimes visiting SoundForge - but, it appears to me that most of the forum topic sections deal with SOFO software issues, and, to that extent, it should be easy for SOFO/Sony to break off those software sections when control changes hands (I say should be easy, but, I'm no whiz on website design, so I really don't know).
If it's not really that easy, then, I would expect to see obvious changes in this forum. Obviously, SOFO will have no reason to support its continued existence and will need to segregate those areas specific to its ongoing ventures, so changes are inevitable.
For sure, this forum is a "feature" of the Vegas software, amost as important as anything one gets in the "box."
But, we have really no one to ask about its future at this point other than to ask ourselves - and our answers are purely speculative.
OTOH, as has already been mentioned, the strength of a forum is the net result of shared interests among users of the product, so, if likeminded folk need to collaborate, a forum, in some form, whether supported by Sony or some other entity or
individual(s), will certainly continue.
