whats the lowest bitrate I can burn to BD?

Hello all! I am thinking about buying VEGAS DVD Architect OR VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Suite (compatibility reasons) but before I do, I need to know something. It's imperative that I be able to burn NTSC, SD, 720X480 videos at NO HIGHER than 5Mps (4Mps preferred) on Blu-Ray discs. That is what many of my projects original files are (some are extensions .vob, some are m2ts, some are mpg) and are all around 11 hours long and 20GB in size each.

I bought Cyberlink PowerDirector a few years ago but the lowest it will allow is 8Mps causing my files jump to high in size. My projects look great, burns with no issues, but 8Mps forces me to use 50GB discs which costs double the price as 25GB. So I tried Nero. It allows 4Mps but I always get some kind of resulting issue (and cant customize the menu/chapter screen as much as I would like). So looks like i'll be requesting a refund from them.

I have SD BDs someone else made (I wish I knew what software they used) with menu and chapter screens where all files are 4Mps so know it can be done. So will VEGAS DVD Architect allow 720X480 NTSC at 4Mps (and audio at 2.0 to help keep file size the same)??? It's ok if the final output on disc is M2TS (although that wont play on XBOXs), but ideally an mp4 option as well (so it will play on XBOX)?? ....oh yea.... and ill need it to be able to make 30-40 chapters (so about 6 or more corresponding chapter screens with 3-6 thumbnails each).

If your 720x480 files are compatible they can go onto a blu-ray disc as they are. They become m2ts files but are your original SD files. Your Blu-ray player will upscale them when playing, just as it would if playing a SD DVD.

Download the 30 day trial of DVDA and you can check for yourself on your 4Mbps query.

Also you may find the cheapest way to buy DVDA is not as a single programme but as part of Vegas Movie Studio Platinum as it comes with that. I haven't checked recently but that was the pricing situation a few months ago.

Thank you...so it sounds like your saying 4Mps IS allowed?? Some software trials dont allow for full functionality which is why I havent tried it yet.

Well im a broke stay at home dad so that would save me 20 bucks! BUT it looks like you need minimum of 16GB RAM for Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 17 so that rules me out.

VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Suite is on sale on Amazon but it is nonrefundable/nonreturnable so does anyone have that and can confirm it will burn 720X480 at 4Mps to blu-ray????.....any opinions on that with what im looking to do? And would buying the newest Architect by itself have any benefits over buying a 2-3yo VMS15 Suite?

If you purchase VMS Platinum you don't need to install, or even download, VMS. DVDA is a separate stand alone programme available for download as part of your purchase. As for VMS needing 16GB RAM it will run on less but won't perform at its best.

I don't know if the DVDA trial has any limitations. But it doesn't cost you anything to download and try.

Ok so I got the trial and the property selection seems to good to be true by allowing me to set my low Mps, etc... My project is 18GB and I have 43.8GB of available space on my hardrive but when I try to make an ISO to test the result it says "there is not enough space to prepare the image".... I tried different folders, did a disc cleanup, then defrag and same error message. PowerDirector nor Nero had this problem trying to create an ISO. I have 3 external hardrives but they are now become full of my projects backing up over the last 3 weeks of me focusing on finding a software that will allow me to burn what I need... how can I resolve this "not enough space to prepare image"?

You need twice the size of the resulting disc on your drive plus of course Windows needs space so you are rather pushing it. So the answer unfortunately is you need to create more space.

The reason, as I understand it, is that DVDA creates an image then converts it to an iso file.
