when atempting to play media in timeline my computer freezes up help please.

I have a 7200 30 gig hard drive, 256m of memory on vf.2 78% resources free. it seems when ever i try to preview video just off the timeline my system instantly freezes up. it dosent do this with just text, or media from the free samples disk my program came with.it also plays fine when i preview from the media pool or explorer. is there a format setting i have to change or somthing? help please stuck.

Sounds like there might be something unusual (or perhaps corrupt) about the video files you're trying to work with, especially if text media and the video clips supplied by us work well. If you have other DV codecs on the system, this *might* cause the problem. I'd recommend dropping Tech Support a line on this.
