When do we get Track Motion presets back? How about NEVER?

From Sony:
"Thanks for writing. Due to the overhaul of the Track Motion interface for including the 3D featureset, we were unable to add the preset selection to that window. We hope to add this back in future versions of the software. We apologize for any inconvenience."

"Inconvenience" only begins to describe this. How was Pan/Crop modified with masking, yet the presets are there? I'm not a programmer, but how does a "remember these settings" drop down interfere with anything? I see this as a real problem if I have to go in and manually set something over and over again -- and it would have been nice to be told this up front, rather than the "oops, we forgot that - it'll be fixed in a future update" we got when it was first brought up.

Definitely a step in the wrong direction, IMO.

Well, let's hope they fix it in the next update. It's really a step back from V4.

I got the impression it wasn't on the radar for any updates. I'd be willing to give up the 3D to get it back. Real bummer...

I also agree, presets in track motion are very important !

yeah. I was the first person to post about this when V5 was released. With hours of release too. I was hoping it would make it in the first release. I use those things all the time & can't live w/o them.

I agree it's a step backwards.

I'll add my voice to this as well. 3D is a bit of a yawn for me, if I was really into 3D I'd use a 3D program, they're not that expensive and I've yet to see a compelling reason it was added into V5. Worse than that it doesn't work very well, there's some pretty severe aliasing issues with it from my tests.
Conversely there's an aweful lot of things that could have been fixed and I'll not go over them again. I just don't get why they broke something that worked to add an unnecessary feature. If they wanted to add something I'd have thought improving the etx capabilities would be #1 on the list. I don't have an issue with Boris, it doesn't look that hard to grapple with but I'd hate try explaining it to someone else. At the same time no one really expects 3D to be easy and there's many good 3D packages out there that are very capable, far more so than what's in V5.

Wow, 5 people have posted a criticism of V5 and nobody has posted a workaround that might put Sony at ease about restoring the feature. Instead, Sony might have to feel the urgency, and that MIGHT just help get the fix you're asking for. I hope so. Vegas is way too good an NLE for a new version to be anything less than a "real" improvement over the prior version.

2Road,

Not sure where you're coming from here, but there's a big difference between wanting something that hasn't been there before and wanting something BACK that has been there all along. I don't think such a request is going to hold up future versions of Vegas or make them any less advanced.

Just talking about how Sony might use this forum to view user concerns. Many times someone will request a feature, or restoration of a useful feature, like you have done, and then someone, or several someones, will make comments that appear to diminish the usefulness or significance of that feature. I was glad to see the flow of comments in this thread was pretty much a chorus of "bring it back, bring it back." Sony Media needs to hear that tough love, i.e., people willing to say, Vegas, I love you, but here's how you can, and must, get better.

I agree with that. Even though this isn't the official channel for such "tough love," it is certainly a good place to flesh it out -- especially when responding to an unfavorable reply when GOING THROUGH proper channels.

I also like your point about the "workaround" advice. Though it really does help people temporarily, if it is viewd by those "above" as a "well, now we don't need to panic about that," that's a problem. I've really never seen the Sony (or SoFo) team reluctant to do absolutely anything they can to correct problems, so I'm confident that they WILL figure out how to get that preset drop down restored.

Where's Zippy when you need him?

Have trust, Sony is listening.
Just the other day, I heard someone making great boasts about how THEY got Sony to include this feature in 5 and that feature in 5. Made me want to puke. Why? Because THIS is where Sony hears about what folks like, don't like, want, don't want, need, and don't need. The COMMUNITY is responsible for the new featuresets and opportunities in Vegas.
The engineers, marketing, tech support, and sales guys all spend time in here looking to see what people say and don't say. These communities like this one, the DMN, DVInfo.net, etc, all drive the engineering and marketing folks.
If it's doable, I'm pretty sure you'll see presets in some form make their way back. No inside knowledge, I'm just saying that if it can be done without breaking anything else, it will likely come back. Sony wants their product to be the best it can be. Keep speaking, but at the same time, keep it cool. No one wants to satisfy a hothead.

Sorry, Spot, but you've got it wrong on one point: It was ME and ONLY ME who demanded that the new Vegas 5 icon be beveled... : )

I know, I know...don't give up my day job...I had a really good joke in the Acid forum last night, and nobody appreciated it there, either...
