When does Resampling occur?

CDA 5's documentation says it resamples any audio that is not 44.1. That, of course, is what it should do. But it doesn't say when this occurs. Does it do it when you first add a file to the project or just prior to burning (after all plugins, etc.)? If it does it any time other than just prior to burning (or dithering if greater than 16-bit) then you're missing some of the main benefits of using higher sampling rates. Does anyone know when resampling occurs?

It does it as you burn, either on-the-fly if there is enough PC resources, or in the pre-render if invoked.

Hmm - what's then happening if you crossfade two events with different sampling frequency.

Resampling both events and crossfading them ?
