When I change the text to black why does it disappear?

I need my text to be black, so I changed it from the default white to black. As I was moving the cursor to the darker shade the text got lighter and disappeared. I tried fiddling around with all the other colors controllers on the side, but nothing worked. I just want to overlay a black text on a picture of a white word bubble, but I can't. Why is it so hard to do simple and trivial things in Sony Vegas. I'm using Sony Vegas Pro 16.

You probably set it all the way to Alpha (transparent) and not towards black.

Use a "media generated" tab "Titles & Text" for a transparent background.

If the text gradually lightens from black to white, I would suspect keyframe(s) was added. I've done similar by mistake when 'Sync Cursor' was engaged on the media generator display.
