When I record a Narration, Can I have the speakers automatically turn off

When I record a narration onto the timeline, my speakers playback the sound of the video as it plays during the recording. Is there any to to prevent this short of having to turn my speakers on and off every time I record a narration and then want to listen to it?

Thanks!

A very simple solution would be using headphones while narrating, as I guess your problem is that the background sound ends up on the narrator track, not that it is disturbing while doing it.

Exactly. Only problem is that when when we're recording a narration, there's two of us, so headphones would also be a problem :P

Thanks for the idea though.

Y-adapters for headphones are dirt-cheap. You could plug two sets of them into the same jack with no problems.

That being said, i usually have the volume control panel open at all times when i'm recording. It's pretty easy to click the Mute checkbox when necessary. It's not automatic, but it's not difficult either.

Why you guys working so hard? Just place a marker at the beginning and ending of the pre existing audio and then record new audio after this. So for instance place a marker at the beginning of the the audio by hitting the "m" key. This will put a marker labeled "1" at the beginning. Now locate to the end and hit the "m" key again and this will place a marker named "2". Now to navigate to each of these points, alls you do is hit the number on your keyboard corresponding to the markers number. Another thing you can do without using the markers is pressing "Cntrl+home" to locate to the beginning of the timeline. or "Cntrl+end" will locate you to the end of the last event located on the timeline. So anytime you wanted to do a new record, just hit "cntrl+end" and jump to the location where there's no audio present and hit record.

Most of the time when I do this, I just solo the track I'm recording on, therefore you won't hear any other audio while recording a VO part.
