Boy is that story doing the rounds of the forums! Still the CDs in question were made quite some time ago. If you think that's tragic you should see what happens to some of the early 2" videotape.
This syndicated story made it to te front page of our local newspaper (The Monterey Herald) with a inadvertently funny picture of a 60s hippie-looking guy holding a CD at arms length towards the camera, with the CD so rotted that you could see clear through it in spots.
Yeah, right. Flesh eating bacteria mutate and eat CDs.
I am not saying that "CD-rot" and "DVD-rot" don't happen, but I do think that our media (at least in the USA) have gotten so sensationalist that it is impossible to get any perspective on any story, even one like this that has no political overtones (at least not yet).
