When output to DV tape, nothing is recorded

Hi!

I am trying to print video to DV tape. My project is Pal Widescreen. When I output to tape, the files are rendered, it says recording and my Sony TRV80 camera starts recording, but nothing gets on the tape, it's blank. The progress bar doesn't move and the HD is not working. So obiously something is wrong, but Vegas hasn't crashed. Is there something I could have done wrong?

jogga Lots of possibilities . . .. Have you had success previously? Try and retrace your steps and see if you've missed out anything. Put up Notepad and truly "write" down each and every step so we can all see what you're doing. Others will be reading this and thinking . . where do I start! . . But let's start with what you and our colleagues here can rummage about with - yeah? Write it all down and post it back here . . .

There will be a solution . . hopefully!

Okey here is what I do:

When I select print video to DV tape. I am asked to select a device.
I choose OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394/DV
I choose PAL DV Widescreen under project, everything else is set as standard.

Next I am asked to Conform Timeline to DV format. I choose Pal DV widescreen.

Then I am asked about Leader and Trailer. I have tried both SMPTE Bars (PAL) and Color Bars (PAL). Both with standard settings.

Under Device setup i choose Use device Control.

When I then press Next, Vegas starts rendering and when finished it says printing to tape.
I can hear the camcorder start up. Is says recording on the LCD display,
I can see it counting the seconds, but no video appears in the display.
My HD stops working as well, so I don't think it is trying to output anything.

Elapsed time is counting in Vegas, but the progress bar stays at 0%.

When I hit Cancel, nothing happens. I then press stop on my camcorder. The camcorder stops.
To close Vegas I have to unplug the Camcorder.

OKay, have you had success in doing this in the past? - Let's get this one out of the way first - yeah?

Do you highlight the the tracks you want to PTT. I guess you must have as the rendering proces wouldn't be happening - yeah?

Do you PTT from the Time Line? Or are you PTTing from the Capture/PTT menu?

If you PTT from the Timeline do you "Highlight" that which you want to PTT?

I don't use WS - I do use 4:3 PAL - no problem.

PAL sometimes has an issue with minimum Length - sometimes setting this creates a problem. Make sure Minimum is NOT checked.

I can't see at the moment what you are doing wrong.

Check the items above - yeah?

This is my first time trying to output to tape.

I do it from the timeline and select all the tracks before I select output to tape.

Where do i select minimum length? I have tried both a project that is just over a minute and one that is 50 minutes long.

The "Minimum Length" possibility that Grazie mentioned is when CAPTURING - not printing.

Okey.

Tried output with 4:3 format as well, same results.

Sorry Chaps! Me bad . . . I'm doing a lot of office work at present and I aint in Vegas Mode - doing it from . . what's it called ?. . . . Memory . . ah yes!

Well just openned up V to remind me, and I can't see what you are doing wrong - Please tell me you've "Include Video" AND "Include Audio" checked? That's in the Custom Template - yeah? As you've been experimenting with templates, maybe just maybe?

Sorry folks for the Capture Red Herring, not meant - but this "Include" option can sometimes trip people up . . .

I just tried to print to tape through the capture menu. I selected a video clip and then record to device. The camera starts, in the LCD display it says DV IN and Rec/pause, I then get an error message:
"An error occured while printing a file to the device.
Please ensure that your device can accept input (hr = 0x80070fd3)"

Any clues?

I know this is too obvious and may not even apply to your problem but I have to ask. A while back on my first d8 (digital 8) camera, I had to enable the dv in/out. The default is out, so I had to switch to in. Is there such a menu on your mini dv? Also, make sure your firewire is firmly in its port on the computer. I started to get weird things when my firewire cable wasn't properly seated in the port. My 2 cents.

Don't think I have a DV IN option, it says DV IN in the camcroder LCD display when I plug in the firewire cable. It is automatic.

I think Vegas have problems controlling my camera. It has happened before, trying to capture. I had to use Premiere to capture my footage, and then import it into Vegas. So something is up with Vegas I think.
