When...What??

Arnar wrote on 9/17/2003, 3:36 AM
I think its about time that Sf tell us what they are going to do for Vegas5.
I have heard that they dont want to reveal what that release will be all about but have dropped teasers saying that it will be more audio related.

Im sorry but that just aint cutting it anymore.

Im someone that had been on the ride since the first release and i think that SF owes me as much as telling me if they are planning to make this an app for grown-ups or not.

it´s time to face the sad facts of the limitations of this program and I have come to the conclusion that the ONLY thing that keeps me hanging on to this prog is the GUI or more specifically the way you can handle the actual audio clips.
This is simply unmatched in the DAW world.

I really like the way you can add multiple auido files from the explorer as one take...very nice....but i think that is pretty much it.

Im not here to whine but rather ask Sf to give us a teaser or something that will convince me to stay on board as im sure as hell going to give up on this program if its not going to grow up.

By growing up i mean implementing the BASIC functions that we all know a daw needs and Vegas doesnt have.

Feel free to flame me if you are still in denial ( been there done that).

Im asking Sf if they are going to do some real cganges to the prog or if im expected to wait until 5 to realise that they added a few lousy functions.

I asked this on another thread, but please, tell us what you want - and why. The more details the better.

I have done so several times but i have never actually been told if any of the suggestions we have all made here will ever be used for the 5 release.

I would like to know what your plans are for the next release and even though i understand the secrecy to a certain extent then im sure you guys are losing customers every day for the simple fact that there arent any teasers around.

I have done my fair share of standing up for Vegas on several forums/ as well as using Vegas And soundforge for teaching audio at a local multimedia school.( 40 licences per prog there) but i have come to realise that its just not good enough when it comes to any serious creative mixing work which is weird as it apparently doesnt have any other use .....We can debate for eternity if Vegas needs midi or not but apparently it hasnt been implemented on the grounds that you want to concentrate on making a good DAW....???

Well then, skip the midi but at least make a fully operational DAW....and you guys aint even close yet.

Whats the plan?

If you dont want to enlighten me on that issue then why should i wait any longer ?

im not pissed or anything...Seriously , i just want to know if this program has a future and just telling me "yes we are working on several things for the next release" isnt enough to have me hang in there.

I will write you a detailed essay of what i think Vegas needs and why, i would go as far to do screen shots, illustrations...whatever....im all for pitching in but i need to beleive that there is a remote chance that these functions would be used.

(but please, tell us what you want - and why. The more details the better)

Its exactly this kinda "automatic response" that just isnt holding up anymore.

So back at ya..................

You tell me what you want to do - and why. The more details the better!:)

Arnar it seems to me you've missed your chance. You have someone from SF asking you what you want and then you throw the ball back to them? Huge opportunity missed! After reading your last post if I was SonicPCH I would think you are just a complainer and would not answer you again. Next time (if that ever happens again) you are asked give them an answer.
Arnar wrote on 9/17/2003, 8:53 AM
yeah,,,yeah....whatever ....I have used this HUGE opportunity several times now and i dont know if its made any difference.

I mean seriously ...should i take the time now and spend a few hours setting up my wish list only to never know if they even plan to use any of these features...get real.

It just so happens that i dont work at Sf!?

Yeah...complainer ...sure...

Like i said before i have earned the right for some straight answers from a company where i have been buiyng software from for years now.

I know how this forum works by now...I´ll have people jumping at me from all over now but i dont care and im NOT complaining i am simply asking for a straight answer.

Besides who cares if im complaining or not ...If im complaining does that mean im wrong.

Does Sonic foundry NOT want money from complaining people?

let me just restate my question here...

Does Sf plan to implement proper routing and bussing functions?
And in general , does SF plan to compete with other DAW´s out there in regards to features?

i can handle a straight answer as im interested as to what level SF wants to acheive and if there is this big masterplan then im ready to hold on,wait and eventually pay for the next release.

This question is aimed at Sf and im simply not interested in other philsophies about wether features are from the devil or not.

Ok...Im going to try and be honest here as Tampa at least seems to think im a complainer /wanker for expressing my opinion strongly( which i do becasue i do feel strongly about vegas)

Im sitting here at this moment Downloading a cubase demo and i tried Sonar yesterday( didnt care much for it)
Why am i trying to find other progs?

Because ( hope i can say this without offending anyone) Vages isnt very good for mixing which is bad as i bought it for mixing!?

What can i say ....?

I can actually live with this for a while longer i guess but i would like to know(and i think its fair) wether there is a plan to make this prog any better in this regard?
And if so then in what way?

If not which is fine by me (SF can make their own choice there) then i think its fair to tell me so can start finding another prog.

I do this for a living and changing progs is a BIG deal for me.

Well, they did give us phase switches.

They gave us input monitoring of a very limited sort

Buss tracks are cool

But I agree arnar, we gotta take a LOT of crap at work for sticking with vegas, and at the point of v4, just like you, its the GUI that keeps us here

I am however not that antsy for too many more functions as I used to be.

I'd like to see auto input, still VERY big on the list

Mostly Id like to see it just get less sluggy and buggy

I think its time for Acid integration

I think its time for at least basic midi recording ( how else to record drum triggers or sequences along with the audio, and PUHLEEZE dont tell me to open both vegas and a sequencer at the same time)

And I KNOW its time for a control surface

>>Vages isnt very good for mixing which is bad as i bought it for mixing!?<<

I personally would not continue using something that doesn't meet my needs. Seems pretty basic to me. That being said. . .
Arnar, its obvious that you are frustrated but your unwillingness to not be specific to Peter's request, even if you've done so in the past, certainly isn't helping your cause. If I were in Peter's position, I'd just write you off. Please be clear and specific and all of us stand to benefit. You absolutely have the *right* to state your opinion and rant away if you like, but if you don't respond appropriately to SOFO, then I think you are just sabotaging yourself.

Peace,

drbam

OK Drbam....fair enough......Its just that i am frustrated thats true.

I will write another feature request.

But i would still like to know if any of the million feature requests are under consideration and further i would like to know if they plan to implement real routing.

Real routing i will explain when i have taken the time to wrtie up my feature request.

Id like to add that while i consider myself a professional i feel bad going to other studios and to see people being able to use control surfaces and route things where they want .....quite simply i feel im falling behind in regards to techniques, tricks, workflow.

Man, i had a session the other day where i coudlnt get the click track in time...phew was that embarrassing!
bgc wrote on 9/17/2003, 1:27 PM
Arnar,
Write a detailed, lengthy list of features and explain them clearly and fully and post them to the forum and the product suggestion list. That's the only way you're going to get what you want.
MyST wrote on 9/17/2003, 4:57 PM
If Sony doesn't bother with suggestions, then they're wasting time on a thread they started in the Acid forum asking for ideas.

I guess then we can't help each other. We have a strict policy of not talking about what we are or are not working on for future revisions. There is nothing automatic about my question to you.

If you can't tell me why you think we are not a DAW, then I can't even pretend to consider the issues that you have, since I don't know them. No, I don't track and read all the forum posts, so I can't review and sift through your previous posts to determine what you are looking for.

"Vegas doesnt allow me to execute the ideas in my head while mixing"

Come on Peter!!! That isn't enough!? Damn, and I use to think you where pretty technically suavey. Sonic Foundry has gone down the tubes since Sony took over, Peter's IQ level just dropped 50 points. I'm packing my bags and heading over to the Protools forum, there's no hope for Vegas.

SonicPCH aka Peter:

Would you please start a thread similar to what you have in the Acid Forum. Specific ground rules for posting upgrade requests. There are several threads under different names underway right now and it would be best if you want our input to just punch it up one more time and let the chips fall where they may. A lot of us are getting pretty antsy out here wondering where our DAW of choice is heading with the new ownership.

There are lots of voices here begging for a reason to stay with Vegas even as other DAW's provide functionality in different areas. Lots of us have some pretty big dollars invested in your software and we would like to make a list and, as anwar states, we'd like to know if any of it might be implemented.

We know you can't reveal exact features, but throw us a bone and at least tell us that Vegas has a future and that the audio side is working on a major upgrade. Or let those that need to move on to something else get on down the road.

Thanks Decrink.....Exactly what i was trying to say except that you found the polite way to say it.:)

I had a bad day yesterday....:)....bygones

c'mon guys, we all know what the specific issues are that we've had for years and seen numerous requests over. A formal thread wont hurt, but its not like theres any surprises with the major stuff.
