Where are the good reports on VP 16?

zdogg wrote on 8/31/2018, 2:13 AM

I myself have not a lot of time to evaluate, but I can say it is very smooth, the look is much improved, though subtle, the storyboard is terrific, the behavior of the trimmer window, MUCH improved. Just seems like you went from a nice Honda into a Porsche....NO, we're not quite a Ferrari YET, but let's give up some props.

BTW, I don't ever recall seeing the Vegas Community with so much whining. If you didn't get what you'd like, can't you like what you get? Some even complained about an ADDITIONAL way to purchase Vegas, i.e., VP 365, HUH? Nobody is twisting anyone's arm, hello, it isn't either/or, it is BOTH/AND, it drives more users, more revenue, and stops you from doing nothing that you had available before (I know, some of you very much get that, but I was dumbfounded by the other people just looking for something NOT to LIKE, like HUH????

Oh, well, praise is what I want to see here. This is not fan boy central. but just to balance, and EVERY software that is any good at all has a laudatory intro as the users get a better program, and IT IS better, and it is going to continue to improve.

Again, if you're not feelin' this thread, there are a few of the other kind, kindly report your grief over there. I am interested in keeping Vegas moving forward and upward, and I am hopeful Magix will, indeed, seize the opportunity. Thanks for indulging me here. Cheers!!

I'm definitely feeling it! The following may be a 'special case' scenario but recently I've been using it in conjunction with 360 "Tiny Planet" clips I've shot with a VR camera. OK so "Tiny Planet" isn't for everyone, but I used to use a separate application to edit/render these videos (Powerdirector 16), and most of the things you can do with that, you can also do with Vegas Pro 16. Little features like that not only make Vegas Pro 16 a bit more functional to use, but it increases my creative juices too. Using both ordinary clips and these ones all in the same application is fantastic as well.

Plus (for me at least) it just 'feels' better to use than previous builds. Maybe its my hardware as well, who knows.

My specs:

AMD Ryzen 1700 CPU

32GB RAM

AMD R9 290X GPU

ASUS B350 plus motherboard.Custom-built PC.

@zdogg

As I am neutral about NLE's, and without sounding like a fan boy, I had just the same idea about starting a post to list the only good things, improvements and experiences with VP16, just to separate the good stuff from the always abundant posts with lists of bugs, annoyances and disappointments.

I get disappointment, as well, but I contend these guys are doing what they can with scant resources, so let's encourage them, and together, we'll make it better.

I love those specs!! And yes, hardware makes some of these 'problems' go away. And for me to, the feeling is better, just like a certain kind of car you care to drive.

I like the scrubbing feature, it helps a lot. But sometimes it freeze and scrubbing is not working.

StoryBoard - WOW! A real productivity tool! That alone was worth the upgrade. Also glad to see the fairly quick responsive action they took in clarifying the actual upgrade prices on the front page (from the mis-leading prices originally indicated there). Good job.

I am most excited about the Bezier masking tool and feel this is a huge advancement for the program. I am excited for the future and want to support Magix in all that they're doing. I have always felt that even after all these years in existence, we have only scratched the surface of what Vegas can do. For instance, it is possible to do a clone stamp effect in Vegas, but you have to be comfortable with the masking tools and adding some effects to do it since there is no "official" clone stamp tool.

So I love 16 and seeing these new tools put in place. My only wish for now is the ability to track a point and attach a null object or point, so I can attach special effects (muzzle flashes, etc). I'm sure it will come eventually, but now that I can see motion tracking implemented, I can hardly wait.

P.S. I wish I could have been at the happy hour where they came up with the names in Auto Looks. LOL.

Hey chief, can you tell me how that actually differs from the existing masking tools, which I used a fair amount as I do a fair amount of compositing inside Vegas, but I have not tried the new....Much appreciated any insights here, thank s in advance. !!
