Where do I save downloaded files in Vegas

LeslieD wrote on 4/28/2006, 9:01 AM
This seems like it is a silly question. But I have been trying to download transitions and video effects off of several sites on the internet to be used in Vegas. But when I go into Vegas, I can't ever find any of them (except for the scripts that I have downloaded). So I am assuming that I am just not downloading them into the correct location. Thanks again for all the help!

Are they specifically written for Vegas?
If so, all I've ever done is install them (they're usually exe files) and they show up in one of the tabs.

If you want to install FXs that were written FOR Vegas then you need to download and use Preset Manager:

http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/download/step2.asp?DID=469

The only transition I've installed came with their own *.exe file which took care of the install into Vegas. These were:

Ball
Cubes
Luminance
WAX
Zoom

All these had their install *.exe

So, Preset Manager for FXs and *.exe for an transitions.

What have you got?

Grazie, thanks for stepping in here and correcting me.
What can I say? It's Friday and it's been a very long week :-)

Did I? Sorry mate! - I found the FX install thingy a bit clumsy - it was the terminology that threw me for a while. But once I got the hang of it . .well .. old dogs and new tricks? - G

Don't be jealous . .I got it for the MOST posts. Now what does THAT say about me - huh? - And yes, I am pleased . . . my arthritic fingers are pleased too and testament to my hanging about here!!!

Grazie, no need to be sorry. I'm the one who neglected to mention using the Preset manager. Thanks to you and your questions, I figured out how to use it and now enjoy it.
Old dog? I'm 55 this summer so yes, I am.
New tricks? Learning all that Vegas can do so, again, yes :-)

I am pretty sure they are specifically for Vegas. I am trying to download transitions, filters, and scripts from sites that have been recommended here on the forum like:

http://mikecrash.wz.cz/
http://www.vasst.com/
http://www.jetdv.com/vegas/forum/index.php?sid=f849f9b5067129dbfc486e60eb145705

The scripts I don't have a problem with because there is a file in Vegas labeled Scripts....Easy! I think I've got that one! I downloaded one transition that has worked that was cubes. But all the other transitions and filters I have tried to download, I can never find in Vegas.

This is what I am doing with the ones that are not showing up. On the sites, I click on what I want to download in order to start the downloading process, and I have the option to open or save, so I choose save and it wants me to give it a location. If I choose open, nothing happens. (I have downloaded the preset manager. Do I need to download to that application? Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

Choose save and save them to a folder where you will know where they are- call the folder something like Vegas filters or downloads, etc.

Since you have downloaded the preset manager all you should have to do now is double click on one of the files as it should be associated with the preset manager. You will find these files now in vegas under fx. (make sure when the preset manager opens up you drag the file over to the right pane.)
