Where is that Little Triangle for Border on cropped image?

Julius_ wrote on 11/1/2018, 4:23 PM

There used to be in the Border FX dialog window, to the left of the timeline at the bottom is a triangle.

This was used to apply the border effect on the cropped image instead of the whole screen...In V15, I can't find that, any help?

(I need to do a soft border edge on a cropped image).

Thanks

Did not see that triangle ever but maybe you mean the keyframe(nr.1) on the screenshot?
What you want to achieve depends on the place of the border in the effect-chain (nr.2).

In older versions of Vegas (V9? V10?) There was a triangle on the left side of the border fx timeline so that the borderfx you apply would be on the cropped image and not on the whole screen.

I'm very curious where that is.
Show me where please because I cannot do the same in VPro 10 as in 15 or 16

That little triangle changes the order of Pan/Crop and the FX in older Vegas Pro versions. It is the same as changing the order manually on the top of the FX window in later Vegas Pro versions. But – since quite a while there is an issue with the Border FX and changing the order of Pan/Crop and the Border FX would not have the expected result.

One workaround is to put the Event which includes the Border FX into a separate track and then use the Shadow tool of Track Motion to add a border.
Another workaround is to use the Glow tool of the Layer Dimensionality FX after the Border FX (but this would always be a softed border).

Btw. I think that triangles were used in Vegas Pro until version 9 and since version 10 it went onto that more apparent chain onto the top of the FX windows.

I don't have any older versions anymore, it must of been V6 or v7 then..as I used them then jumped to V10, and the V15.

@Marco.
I do not use that option often, but I saw indeed some strange things.
First time it works not, but after I did the same with a heavy videofile in 15 and 16 it works the way intended to work.
Repeated times until now 😏

@j-v Could you repro with a Generated Media instead of a video (just to keep that project small) and share that project file?

Thank you Marco and J-V

I used the Shadow tool of Track Motion to add a border., seems to do the trick...my timeline is a bit messy because I need a new track for each cropped image (that is in a different place at times), but I can manage.....Hard to believe that it was back in V6 or V7..times flies! Thanks!

It happens in my VPro 10,12,13 and 14 on laptop.

Thanks for the project file. I see why it works in this particular project - it is because Pan/Crop is set to be stretched to the frame. Once you set this to "No"or if you use the Crop FX instead it would not work no more.

Does this flickering border shown in VP14 also appear if GPU acceleration is turned off?

Julius_ wrote on 11/2/2018, 2:33 PM

I can't open it because I;m on V15...I also notice that the only border I can place is the soft shadow when going the track motion route. It's okay but limited.

Makes no difference.
As showed on the video it happens when border is first in the chain and pan/crop is second.
When pan/crop is first in chain the border is exactly placed around the crop, with and without GPU on in Options/Preferences/ Video

I stand corrected, I can apply any border fx, then crop it in the track motion...seems to do the trick.
